The Golden Laurel Jury, New York comprised: The Hon. Ellis Arnall, Mr Gardner Cowles, Mr Otto Harbach, Mrs Franklin d.Roosevelt, Dr Ralph J.Bunche, The Hon. William O.Douglas, Mr Rene d'Harnoncourt, Mr Herbert Bayard Swope. According to the inscription the object of the award was to pay tribute to those motion pictures produced anywhere in the world (except in the United States or by Americans Abroad), which made the greatest contribution to mutual understanding and goodwill among the peoples of the world. The Golden Laurels were founded by David O.Selznick in 1949.
