Anthony Powell designed the costumes to suit the personalities of the characters. In this instance, Angela Lansbury played the outrageously flamboyant novelists Mrs Salome Otterbourne. Many of Anthony Powell's designs were made by the talented Barbara Matera in New York..who found some costume trimmings, and part of actual outfits in bazaars or markets in New York, Paris and London, and combined them with exquisite, rich, rare fabrics....
