NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS -- BURKE, Cecil (b. 1914); Verdun SCOTT (1916-80) and Eric PETRIE (b. 1927) -- A 3pp a.l.s. by Burke, dated 11 Mawa Rd, Anchunga, Auckland, 16th October 1958, to Robin McConnell, on spinning: "the most interesting but hardest branch of bowling. To be successful requires constant practice ... concentrate on length the foremost essential of any bowler ... a real leg spinner must co-ordinate finger spin with a sharp turn of the wrist so that the palm of the hand is pointing in the direction of gully after delivery;" a 2pp. a.l.s. by Scott, dated 31 Clarence St, Devonport, Auckland, November 19th 1958, advising McConnell to: "Listen to all the advice you will receive ... Sift out anything good that might help you and forget the rest;" a 2pp a.l.s. by Petrie, dated Gibson Rd, Hamilton, 20th October 1958, to McConnell, describing the English cricket grounds as: "first-class ... Lord's has an atmosphere which is difficult to describe but it is apparent immediately one enters through the W.G. Grace Gates ... it was a thrill of a lifetime stepping out on the hallowed turf of such famous grounds ... the playing surface of these grounds is like green velvet," all three in their original s.a.e; together with 11 other a.l.s. by New Zealand cricketers, including T.C.
