A Projected Design for a 1969 Hunter College brochure promoting their Special Education Department. Sendak is the pre-eminent American children's illustrator, winner of numerous awards, illustrator of over 80 books. His work has been exhibited at the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, in Paris and various American museums. He was the first American to win the coveted Hans Christian Anderson International Medal in 1970, and has been a major figure in children's literature since the 1960's and now considered "the greatest creator of picture-books in the hundred-odd years' history of the form." (John Rowe Townsend). Recently he has turned to set and costume designs for the theatre, ("The Love of three Oranges", Glyndebourne, 1982).
