These cockpen armchairs with reed enriched and splayed legs correspond to those of a 'Chinese Chair' of this period attributed to Messrs. Young, Hamilton and Trotter and is illustrated in Francis Bamford, A Dictionary of Edinburgh Furniture Makers, Furniture History Society, 1983, Pl.46
