The chairs with Grecian tablet rails and scrolled legs, have reed-draped backs that derive from a pattern published in Thomas Sheraton's Encyclopedia, 1804 pl.1. A suite of squab-cushioned drawing-room chairs of this pattern, but with additional carving on the sides was sold Christie's King Street, 11 April 1971, lot 38.
