Lot Essay

Tulliechewan Castle was built near to the southern shore of Loch Lomond, Dunbartonshire by the English architect Robert Lugar in 1808. Commissioned by John Stirling, a Glasgow merchant, it was the first Scottish castle in the irregular Gothic style, characterised by the irregularity of the towers, no two of which were alike in height and shape. Tulliechewan was demolished in 1954.
