The Secretes of the Reverende Mayster Alexis of Piemount, conteinyng many excellent remedies against dyvers diseases ... translated out of French into Englishe by Wyllyam Ward [the first part], London: [Henry Sutton], 1559, small 4°, second edition, printed in black letter, large and small woodcut initials in mixed styles, with 2 page address from "The translatour to the Readers" at end (title slightly soiled and creased, E6 torn with some loss at foot of page, occasional dampstains, a few headlines cropped) [STC 295]; The Second (Third and Fourth) Part of the Secrets of Maister Alexis of Piemont, by him collected out of diuers excellent authors, and newly translated out of French into English by William Ward, London: Peter Short for Thomas Wight, 1595, small 4°, printed in black letter, title pages with publisher's device, woodcut initials (part III lacking 2F8, and any text before 2B8 after title, part IV lacking part of the table at end, verso of 2P8 in part IV with ink-smudges at margins, 2U6 with burn hole causing loss, some old staining and browning in all three parts) [STC 312], the four parts bound in two volumes, 19th-century morocco with bookplate of Thomas Upham Coe, g.e. According to STC, the 1595 edition of all 4 parts has continuous signatures , 4° in 8°'s. In the case of the present copy, part I is from an earlier (the second) edition. Part II is 4° but, though published by Thomas Wight in 1595, not bound in 8's. Parts III and IV are 4° in 8°'s with continuous pagination, but the pagination to Part III does not follow on from Part II.
