The hilt Scottish, the blade probably German, Early 17th Century

The tapering blade with three fullers, to the upper part inscribed one side, Andria Ferara and incised to the other side with a running wolf, the hilt with fluted conicle pommel, the iron basket pierced with stylised circles and hearts and with two S-shaped bars linking the side and rear knuckle guards, with down-turned scroll quillon and two openwork scroll forward guards, fish skin covered wood grip and with later corded tassle
length overall 36in. (91.4cm)
