This preliminary sketch of the major picture in the possession of Her Majesty the Queen and measuring 62 x 45in. depicts Prince Charles Edward Stuart entering the Ballroom of Holyrood House attended on his left by Cameron of Locheil and on his right by Forbes of Pitsligo or possibly MacDonald of Clanranald. Although the Prince wore Highland Dress in Edinburgh he did not wear the kilt. Her Majesty's picture was Exhibited in 1890 and also at the London Royal Academy, 1892, No.89
