Lot Essay

Patented in 1889 the Gardner was made in Manchester in the early 1890s, and was chiefly remarkable for its relative simplicity and small number of components. In addition to the fourteen keys, there is a space key and a three-position shift key, which have to be pressed simultaneously for certain letters to be typed.
