A Continental massive lidded hexagonal tankard on openwork cherubs' mask and shell feet and with conforming mounts incorporating lion's heads and C-scrolls, the elaborate handle cast with a satyrs' mask, a seahorse, roundels and foliage, the hinged cover with shell and caryatid thumb piece and openwork mounts supporting a finial modelled as a figure in armour holding a shield and a staff, the front of the cover with an openwork scroll catch applied with an owl, the sides and cover fashioned from panels of soapstone engraved with stylised foliage within textured borders - 12in. overall.
