A Lambert black smoker automaton
(late version), the papier-mâché head with fixed eyes and open mouth, sitting cross-legged on velvet-covered base containing the five-cam open-spring mechanism playing one air and causing the figure to turn and nod his head, raise a wooden cup in his right hand and a hookah pipe in his left, the smoke sucked through the base and emitted from the mouth, in original velvet jacket, shirt and slippers edged with metal-thread braid, later turban and cummerbund; with LB key - 20½ (52cm.) high, (face and hands poor, lacking bellows and base cover, in need of restoration), circa 1910.
