It was continued by two further generations of the family: by her daughter Mrs Julieta Carpi de Gutierrez-Répide and granddaughter, Mrs Amparito Gutierrez-Répide. Mrs Julia Millán de Carpi had a specially constructed house which she named La Casa Blanca (The White House) built in her garden to house 'her children' and collection. The house was situated in the Boulevard Dewey, in front of the city bay. During the second world war, the family residence became the military base of the Japanese government. It suffered extensive military damage at the hands of General MacArthur and the American forces and only the front part of the main house remained intact. La Casa Blanca also suffered and part of the collection was lost and part damaged. Mrs Amparito took responsibility for the collection and undertook a careful programme of restoration. She resumed the family tradition by enlarging the collection with enthusiasm and passion. When Mrs Amparito died in 1999 she left an immense collection of more than 2000 dolls and a careful selection of these are being offered here in lots 15, 18, 19, 22-40, 51-176, 217, 222, 226, 236, and 291-314. The family hope that the sale will let others enjoy these dolls as they have done for five generations.
