The Tailor Of Panama
A pair of tailor's shears with steel blades and brass handles, made by Wilkinson & Son, Sheffield -- 14½in. (36.8cm.) long; accompanied by a typescript letter, signed, from John Le Carré on his headed stationery stating This is a pair of tailoring shears which I kept in my room as a sort of talisman while I was writing the novel of THE TAILOR OF PANAMA. In John Boorman's movie version of the book, Geoffrey Rush who plays the Tailor uses a similar pair of shears with extraordinary skill. Apparently he gave himself lessons in tailoring, 1p. (2)
