A SEVRES BLEU CELESTE PLATE FROM THE PRINCE DE ROHAN SERVICE (ASSIETE 'A PALMES')

The center with the initials LPR in two shades of gold enclosed within a wreath of acorns and oak leaves, the roots at the bottom, the border edged with gilt lines and painted with three oval panels of birds in landscape vignettes reserved within gilt ciséle bands on the turquoise ground further gilt with swags of oak suspended from rings between each panel, the molded palm fronds scrolled above each cartouche enriched in gilt

Lot Essay

The present plate is from a service ordered in 1771, the year the Prince de Rohan was nominated a Ambassador Extraordinary to the court of Vienna. Delivered in 1772, it is listed in the registery of deliveries under the 7th September and priced at 20,772 livres for 368 pieces, with plates listed at 36 livres each. Cf.
