Lot Essay
Isaac-Simon Rebour, maître in 1767.
Rebour is recorded in the rues de Charonne, Montreuil and de la Roquette. His characteristic ormolu mounts were executed by the fondeurs Paul-André Fossé, of the rue des Boucheries-Saint-Germain and Jean-Loucien Houllieau of the rue Michel-le-Comte.
This elegant table à écrire closely relates to a group of similar tables all executed by Rebour, which are embellished with a rich parquetry and marquetry pattern with a floral-trellis and entrelac frieze, for which he is best known. These comprise:- that with an early 19th Century brand for the château de Tuileries (indicating that it was placed there after the Restauration) but without an undertier, sold anonymously at Christie's London, 14 December 2000, lot 170 (,P56,500); another sold from the collection of Madame de Polès, Paris, 22 June 1927, lot 290; and a final example sold anonymously, Sotheby's Monaco, 14 June 1982, lot 409.
