A SET OF FOUR LOUIS XV BEECHWOOD FAUTEUILS
Circa 1750
Each crestrail carved with flowerheads and leaves, the padded back, armrests and seat covered in close-nailed floral silk upholstery, two in beige and two in 18th century silver silk embroidery with metal thread, flanked by downsept arms, over a shaped seat-rail carved with flowerheads and leaves, on cabriole legs headed by a flowerhead, each chair engraved C473 and 41034/27 (4)

Lot Essay

The proud distinctive flowerheads within rocaille carving to the legs is similar to the carving of Jean-Jacques Pothier, ( mâitre in 1750), seen for example on a fauteuil illustrated in B.Pallot L'Art du Siège au XVIIIe Siécle en France, Paris, 1987, p. 208.
