Lot Essay

Martin Jullien, mâitre in 1777.
Nicolas-Martin Delaporte, a sculptor who lived on Traversière-Saint-Antoine, used the initials N.D.L.P.S, 'Nicolas De La Porte sculptit'. This stamp is found on Louis XVI chairs in conjunction with the stamps of other menuisiers.
It is interesting to note that both the Jullien and Delaporte stamps appear on all six chairs and on the settee, not included in this lot. It is impossible to determine therefore, the exact part that each of these artists had, althought these chairs correspond perfectly to the manner of Martin Jullien.
