Attributed to Beddoes in a letter from William Anstice to Samual Parr. Edmunds, a bookseller and printer in Madeley, printed books in the house that the Rev. John and Mary Fletcher had purchased for their adopted daughter. He printed this work at the expense of William Reynolds "a notable Madeley ironmaster." The types were set by Edmund's daughter, and the fact that the composing was done by a woman was drawn to the reader's attention in the "Advertisement" prefixed to the book.

The aim of the poem appears to have been to demonstrate the possibility of imitating the style of Erasmus Darwin, and to denounce the English expansionism in India. [Cave: The Private Press p.82]
