GILL, Eric, Douglas PEPLER & others. The Game, an Occasional [Monthly] Magazine, Ditchling: Douglas Pepler, St. Dominic's Press, October 1916 - January 1923, volumes I - VI [all published] bound in 2, 8°, wood-engraved plates and illustrations by Gill and others, volume one bound in contemporary blue morocco gilt (spine slightly faded); volume 2 bound in calf-backed boards (original wrappers not present). [Gill 69] (2)
ERIC GILL'S COPY, both volumes signed by him in pencil at front, volume one with his bookplate, and with a few marginal amendments in his hand mainly to the first issue. Pepler said of he Game: "A history of the Press [St. Dominic's] would be incomplete without a reference to that lively magazine which began the first year of our existence. Edward Johnston, Eric Gill and myself decided to print our views about things in general which we regarded, as all men regard games, of supreme importance. In the strict sense of the word it was not with any idea of propaganda, it was more a corporate letter-writing to others who were willing to play with us." (The Hand Press, Ditchling 1934).
