Further details
The Romero clarinet, named after its inventor Antonio Romero y Andía, was patented in 1862 and 1867. The perfected model of 1867 is a miracle of ingenius and complicated workmanship. The one-piece body is pierced with 28 holes - with 29 when the low e flat is fitted - but has no more touchpieces than the plain Boehm. Romero boldly set out to grapple with the problems of the break by transferring many of the duties of the left hand to the right. The Clarinet by F. Geoffrey Rendall, page 103.
