Willem Frederik Karel van Oranje Nassau (1797-1881)

Prince Fredrick was born in Berlin, the son of King Willem of the Netherlands and Wilhelmina of Prussia. He was raised at the Prussian Court and from age 16 served in the army. In 1830 he commanded the unit which put down the Brussels revolt. When his brother became King Willem II in 1840 he withdrew from public life, although he continued with his interests in military education and philanthropic works. He was also Grand-Master of the Dutch Freemasons from 1816 until his death.

A. Kayser was Pharmacist to the Belgian Department of Railways, Post and Telegraphs. He was awarded the Belgian Civic Cross and was a Member of the Netherlands Benefactory Alliance at Brussells. He claimed that his chest was the most useful available and was appropriate for military, factory and travelling purposes. It was examined and approved by the Red Cross and Prince Fredrik, for whom this special example was made.
