The following two lots were commissioned by Count Demidoff-San Donato from the Italian artist G. Prodocimi. They are copies of his uncle, Prince Demidoff's, (1812-1870) renowned collection which ws sold in Florence on 15 March 1880. There is currently an Exhibition devoted to Anatole Demidoff, Prince of San Donato at the Wallace Collection. He married Princess Mathilde in 1840.
A fan, the leaf finely painted with In Guelderland in the manner of Philips de Koninck, signed G. Prosdocimi, Dip., the verso with monogram D.D., the tortoiseshell sticks finely carved and gilt with putti and cattle by the sculptor Jorel, the guardsticks with monogram D.H. - 11in., circa 1875

Literature
The sculptor Jorel was a well-known fan carver from the Oise. See Blondel, S.,Histoire des eventails, 1875, p.188.
