The Coronation Review of the Fleet at Spithead on 20 May 1937 was the last of the old Royal Yacht Victoria & Albert (III). Built at the turn of the century and in service from the accession of King Edward VII, she was designed as a twin- screw schooner and was the largest and most magnificent royal yacht in Europe. Beloved by three monarchs and an integral part of royal life both at home and abroad, she was beginning to feel her age by the mid-1930's and was withdrawn after the 1937 coronation review and laid up in Portsmouth harbour. In July 1938 the Cabinet took the decision to replace her, but the War intervened and the project was shelved even though Victoria & Albert never saw service again and was finally broken up in 1955.
