A Sèvres biscuit porcelain portrait bust of Moliere after an original by Houdon, the playwright modelled turning to the left, wearing a skull cap, loose shirt, jacket and scarf, on a socle base inscribed JEAN-BAPTISTE POQUELIN MOLIERE NE A PARIS EN 1622 ET MORT LE 17.FEVRIER 1673, and HOUDON FECIT ANNO 1773 (chips to base, some firing faults and wear), impressed marks, incised G. B. 12.02, early 19th Century -- 18½in. high
