Provenance: Front pastedown with printed library label, stating: "This volume is from the Library of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain). Albert Paine. Literary Executor. Sold February, 1911, by The Anderson Auction Company, No. 12 East 46th Street, New York;" together with a one page typed letter signed by Alan Gribben, from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas 78712, June 2nd 1978, to Ms. Gibbs, requesting information on the above book for his: "eight-year study entitled "Mark Twain's Library: A Reconstruction."
