Lot Essay

The English poets, Robert Browning (1812-1889) and Elizabeth Barrett (1806-161), met after Miss Barrett published Poems in 1844 which attracted the attention of Mr. Browning. They married two years later and lived for the next fifteen years in seclusion, mainly in Italy.
