ERNEST TOSELAND
Ernie Toseland joined Manchester City from Coventry City on 1st March 1929 and made his debut for the Maine Road side on 20th April 1929 against Bury. A fantastic servant for the club he totalled 368 League appearances, scoring 62 goals before being transferred to Sheffield Wednedsay on 15th March 1939. Toseland also made 41 F.A.Cup appearances for City, scoring 14 goals. Sadly, he never made a full International appearance for England, but did manage a single match for the Football League against the Irish League in September 1929. He played for City in two Lancashire Senior Cup finals and won two Manchester Senior winner's medals in 1929 and 1933. He also helped City to the 1933 and 1934 F.A.Cup final's and played in two Charity Shield matches. Perhaps the highlight of his career was the winning of the Division 1 Championship for the first time in City's history in season 1936-37.
