In the 1948-49 F.A. Cup final, played on 30th April 1949 at Wembley, before 99,500 spectators, Wolves defeated Leicester City 3-1. The Wolves goals were scored by Pye (2) and Smyth, with Leicester's solitary reply coming from Griffiths.
