The Civic Banquet was organised to offer congratulations to Wright on his record achievement of 100 appearances for England.

The Wolverhampton Express and Star, in an article on the banquet on 30th April 1959 recorded 'From the body of the subscribers to the banquet - in other words, the soccer supporters - there was a massive antique piece of silver, a monumental piece particularly appropriate for a monumental achievement. This was presented by Mr. Cliff Everall
