Literature
Rhead, G. Woolliscroft, History of the Fan, 1910, p114, illustration p.116. describes the very similar fan in the Musee de Cluny. This is also described and illustrated in Helene Alexander, Fans, p.13. The Cluny fan is also mentioned and illustrated in Francoise de Perthuis & Vincent Meylan, Eventails, p.20. The fan in the Musee de Cluny has vermillion pompoms and six rather than seven and the mica panes are painted with Acteon and other motifs. On that fan only one pane is defective but it lacks one vellum finial. This is the third known example of this type of fan.
