A pair of Japanese gilt bronze tapering oviform vases with stylised dragon head handles, decorated in gilt, silver and copper hirazogan and takazogan with a panel depicting a figure on the back of a bear before an Immortal holding a staff among rockwork, another panel depicting a warrior carrying a bow, a daisho and a fan among rockwork above breaking waves, the reverses with panels of butterflies among fruiting pomegranate and peach branches, all on scrolling grounds below stylised bats, foliage and mon -- 10¾in. high.
