Lot Essay

After leaving Kiev in 1920, Tchelitchew worked for one year in Istanbul before moving to Berlin, where he was assisted by Joseph Lubitsch in 1922-23. 'Savanorala' was produced at the Koeniggratzerstrasse Theatre, Berlin in 1922 and was based on Gobineau's The Renaissance.
