Lot Essay

On 1 June 1952, after attending a bullfight in the Arena at Nimes, Picasso and a group of friends were invited to a restaurant where they were invited to eat the freshly killed bull. Picasso proceeded to amuse his guests by tearing the table cloth into the form of a dove.
