An unusual copper and brass electrified lantern made by the electrical artificers of H.M.S. Warspite, 1913-1947, from an earlier design and used to illuminate the aft section of the quarter deck of H.M.S.Warspite. Details include styalised dolphin hoist bracket, beaten copper body of octagonal form -- 29in (73.7 cm) high -- with seven frosted glass panels; an iron bracket for wall mounting; a cast brass Tompion coat-of-arms of H.M.S.Warspite; and a gilded plaque inscribed 'Quarter deck lantern from H.M.S. Warspite 1913-1947. Jutland 1916, Narvik 1940, Matapan 1941, Crete 1941, Malta convoys 1941, Sicily 1943, Salerno 1943, Normandy 1944, Walcheren 1944'; and a framed letter from Admiral Sir William Andrewes who commissioned the construction of the lantern in about 1930
