An extremely important early 20th Century builder's model of the Kaizermarine Submarine U-1 built by Fried. Krupp AG Germaniawerft, Kiel-Gaarden 1906 -- 13½ x 66in (34.3 x 167.7 cm)
The wooden hull with external details including two collapsible ventilators mounted fore and aft, the fore with signal mast attached, deck rails, bollards, hatches, conning tower with railed platform and two periscopes, jackstaff, ship's boat lashed to starboard amidships, fore and aft planes, upper and lower rudders and twin shafts with 'A' brackets and three blade propellers. Finished in grey and black and mounted on two plated columns in mahogany glazed case. Table
NOTE:This model was exhibited at the Berlin Exhibition 1908 and some restoration was carried out by A.D. Trollope, The Imperial War Museum London, circa 1950
