Lot Essay
This and the following three lots are duplicates from the unique collection of Olga Wood recordings held by the Royal Academy of Music (v. Hillandale News, August 1992, pp. 87-92, and The Record Collector July-September 1993, pp. 196-9). Olga Wood (Princess Olga Oroussov) was Henry Wood's pupil and first wife. Seventeen recordings were made in three sessions in 1908-09, with Henry Wood as accompanist -- the only recordings of him at the piano. Only six were issued, and all were apparently withdrawn following Olga's death in December 1909. The Joan of Arc (Maid of Orleans) piece is from the July 1908 session, the others all from the third session of June 4th 1909.
The collection was given by Henry Wood to Walter Stock, Librarian of the Royal Academy of Music, and subsequently left by him to the RAM Library. These duplicate copies are being offered for sale by the library to help finance the purchase of new audio equipment.
