FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN of the first work. Of the intended 148 medallions only 131 were completed in the Latin, German and Italian editions, and the etched outlines left blank. The colours vary slightly between different the different editions with various modifications to adjust the definition. [See Nancy Bialler Chiaroscuro Woodcuts. Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617) and his Time (Amsterdam n.d.) pp.30-34. Cf. Berlin Kat 4240 and 4241 for Latin and French editions].
