with inscription on an old label on the reverse 'Painted by Clint This portrait of Harley was bought at Christie Manson and Woods (from the Evans's Collection) July 22/71-/Hardy was a Comic actor of celebrity. The original of the Hatter in Box/& Cox. The catalogue said the picture was painted by Lonsdale but this is wrong. G. Clint ARA was/the painter. see back of picture at/the top p/pp/t' and with numerous other markings
