A lacquered and silvered-brass universal equinoctial dial, the square horizontal base with floral engraving and wind rose, with shaped wind vane in folding frame, rod gnomon, shaped hour ring divided III-XII-I-IX, the interior divided 3-12-1-9, the folding latitude arc graduated 10°-80°, plumb bob in folding frame and compass with blued-steel needle and engraved dial, the underside engraved with the latitudes of nine European cities and signed Loremz Grassl, Augspurg, on two (of three) turned feet -- 3¼in.(8cm.)wide, in silk-lined leather-covered case with blind and gilt-tooled decoration, late 18th century
