One tong of Chester origin;
Six tongs of Dublin origin;
Sixty five tongs of Edinburgh origin;
Ten tongs of Exeter origin;
Twenty eight tongs of Glasgow origin;
One hundred and six tongs of London origin;
Sixteen tongs of Newcastle origin;
One tong of Perth origin;
Nine tongs of Sheffield origin;
Two tongs of York origin;
Three tongs of unconfirmed origin;
Making a grand total of 250 tongs, with the main centres of London and Edinburgh well represented and particularly in late 18th Century bright-cut engraved examples typical of the finest period of tong manufacture.
This collcetion was formed by B.S. and C.M. Edwards over the period 1960 to 1990. It is probably one of the largest and most comprehensive in private or institutional hands and provides an unique record of a minor silver manufacture in Great Britain extending from the mid 18th Century to the late 19th Century
