The 18th century costumes were probably worn by Lt.-General Edward Pole or his son Edward Sacheverell Pole, or John Eyre, later Pole and his son Philip Eyre of Hopton. Philip Gell was the father of Sir William Gell, the celebrated Antiquary described by Byron in a poem as "Rapid"Gell.
