BALLOON GLOBE - DESMADRYL, A. Globe Terrestre dressée par A Desmadryl..et publié par Benoit, Troyes, 1833

A large balloon globe, the inflated diameter circa 40 inches (102cm), made up of two sets of 12 hand-coloured lithographed gores sheets and a north polar calotte, on thin paper, the strips carefully glued together and backed by linen, with cloth strentheners at the north pole and metal rim incorporated at the south pole to create an opening at the base (minor spotting a few small tears).

A rare Montgolfier-style hot air balloon globe, to be inflated by the user with hot air through the base opening. The style and execution of this unusual French example of a balloon globe would seem to parallel the work of Ebenezer Pocock in England. Pocock patented a very similar balloon globe in Bristol around 1830.
