Lot Essay
Ignacio Leon Y Escosura was born in 1834 at Oviedo, an ancient city in the northern region of Leon. He then left to study as a pupil of Federico de Madrazo, before obtaining a second class medal in Madrid. Escosura appears to have travelled widely including a brief visit to England during the early part of the 1880s, where he exhibited several works at the Royal Academy, London.
