Although the addressee is not specified Brewster is clearly responding to a request to sit for his photograph for inclusion in a book he states: 'Had I been in London I should have sat for my Photograph for your interesting work, but as I am not likely to be there this year. I may mention that Mr Edwin Musgrave 130 Princes Street Edinburgh has the negative of the finest portrait of me ever taken, and could either supply you with copies you require, or perhaps let you have the negative...'.
