Lot Essay

Ellis Evans was born on 4 May 1811 and died on 16 November 1863. Around 1853 he inserted a notice in the Rhyl Journal, founded by his brother-in-law, announcing that he was in a position to take photographs. According to family tradition he was the first photographer on the North Wales coast.
