Nine folios from a Khamseh of Nizami
Persian manuscript on paper, 18ll. of black nasta'liq in four columns, or written diagonally within illuminated floral sprays, green and gold margins between black rules, red and blue outer rules, gold intercolumnar divisions, headings in blue, (some wear, small damages and repairs), including the opening gold and polychrome illuminated bifolio, illuminated headings for 'Khosrow and Shirin' and the 'Sharafnameh', four contemporary miniatures illustrating the text, and the colophon signed by Safi al-Din known as Fakr al-Din and dated Shawwal AH 979/April 1572 AD, probably Shiraz (some rubbing and flaking, small damages and repairs) - 9¼ x 6in. (23.5 x 15.5cm.)
