On 10th March 1956 Lieut. Cdr. L.P.Twiss flying the Fairy Delta FDII WG774 established a new world air speed record of 1132 mph. The power was provided by a ten thousand pound static thrust Rolls Royce RA28 equipped with after burner. The FDII was designed by H.E. Chaplin.
