A fine double-frame oxidized brass 'presentation vernier quintant signed on the main arc Troughton & Simms London and numbered on the perpendicular arm 3240, inset silver scale divided 5 - 0 - 159, rosewood handle with applied metal presentation plaque inscribed 'Presented to R.R. TUTHILL B.A.C.E. together with an address by the Employees of the BARRON HARBOUR DREDGING DEPARTMENT on the occasion of his leaving Barrow-in-Furness 29th June 1878', swivel magnifier to index arm, four shades to index mirror, three shades to horizon mirror, inverting sun telescope and other accessories in fan shaped fitted mahogany box the top of which has an applied presentation plaque worded as that on the quintant handle -- index arm radius 8½in.
